Letter from the Scholars Council

Happy Holidays and Season Greetings, Scholars!

It’s hard to believe that 2005 is here! Where did the year go?  We can all answer that: questions-classes, research papers, proposals, defense, etc, typical life of a doctoral candidate/student.

We would like to welcome all new and returning scholars to the program.  We are excited about seeing each of you at the upcoming Holmes Scholars Conference in Philadelphia starting Wednesday January 20 at noon.  Our goal this year is Building Unity Among Scholars. We have prepared a variety of activities to facilitate this process. If you haven’t registered for the conference please see the website for details.

Over the next couple of weeks, officers from the council will be notifying you via email.  Please take this opportunity to establish a network of support.  The Holmes Scholars Council can assist you with information regarding the programs, contacts of scholars with similar research interest, or just lend a listening ear when the road gets bumpy.  This is a wonderful opportunity to open the lines of communication between scholars!    You won’t be able to say… “I’m the only one at my university”.  Here is a chance to reach out to others and the Council can help.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Philadelphia.  Until then … remember, this process is a journey, not a race. Everyone is a winner!

  Sincerely,

The Holmes Scholars Council

Rashard Wright – President                    Alyssia James, V. President      Catherline Williamson, Secretary          Willette Young, Historian                  Antoinette Rogers, Research Coordinator
